Le rocher de Maria Mâtre

Maria Mâtre was a fisherman's wife and a remarkable cook, but she had one big fault: she was very greedy. One day she had made one of her masterpieces, a galette with crayfish tails, as a tribute to her husband who had returned from fishing hungry. But she couldn't resist the pleasure of tasting the cake before her husband returned, and her greed was such that she devoured the whole cake! When her husband realised this betrayal, he was so incensed that he appealed to heaven for vengeance! His wish was granted and the unfortunate Maria Mâtre was turned into a stone statue with her cake on her head.
