L’Échappée Jurassienne : randonnées au milieu des lacs et cascades

Following the route of the great Jurassic Escape itinerary, this star-shaped stay (returning to the same accommodation each evening) plunges you into the heart of the country of lakes and waterfalls. During 5 days, between 500 and 900m of altitude, the landscapes, the panoramas and the nature will never cease to amaze you. From the famous Hérisson waterfalls to the Chalain lake, the largest natural lake in the Jura, via the 4 lakes plateau with its incredible colours, get away from it all!

Situated in the middle of the countryside and offering a beautiful view of the surrounding valley, you will quickly be charmed by this small mountain village and its surroundings which are particularly rich in natural sites. A few steps away, the Bonlieu lake is waiting for you for a bucolic stroll on its banks...

Day 1: in the late afternoon, between 4 and 6 pm, installation in your accommodation***. Dinner and overnight stay.

After a good night's sleep, Jura Tourisme proposes to get down to business with 3 superb hikes from the TopoGuides® "Le Jura... à pied":

Day 2: The Tour des 4 lacs (PR 33) - Difficult: 4h30/14km (possibility of doing shorter: 3h/12km)
After breakfast, take your vehicle to reach the starting point of this hike which is located at the hamlet "La Fromagerie" (4km / 5 minutes). Borrowing a good part of the route of the Échappée Jurassienne, this is a beautiful hike around the plateau of the 4 lakes (Ilay, Narlay du Petit and Grand Maclu) allowing you to walk around them and thus enjoy the richness of their preserved flora and fauna. Swimming is forbidden in these glacial lakes, a godsend for fishermen who take advantage of the quietness of the place to cast their line. But fishermen are not the only ones to enjoy it, hikers are not left out. As you climb the rocky promontory overlooking the 4 lakes, you can enjoy superb views. The 4 lakes lookout, the 3 lakes lookout and the Pic de l'Aigle allow you to admire the Vallée du Hérisson and the 7 lakes plateau below. A grandiose hike that you will remember for a long time!
Don't forget to bring a picnic lunch before setting off as there are few refreshment points on this hike.
At the end of the day, return to the accommodation *** : dinner on site + night

Day 3: Les Cascades du Hérisson (PR32) - Medium: 4h/12.5km
After breakfast, still from your hotel (with a return walk along the forest road to Moulin Jeunet), set off for a few hours of particularly refreshing hiking. Following the route of the emblematic Échappée Jurassienne, you will walk along the "Hérisson", the tumultuous river which gave its name to the valley! It is not certain that you will see the animal along the path, but you will certainly be thrilled by the fabulous Cascades du Hérisson... 7 large waterfalls of 30 to 65 metres follow one another in a few kilometres, while there are more than thirty jumps throughout the valley. A white water spectacle not to be missed. The hike then takes you to the village of Menétrux-en-Joux, from where you can admire the valley and in particular the Eventail waterfall from a beautiful panorama!
It is possible to eat along the way at the Maison des Cascades, Menétrux-en-Joux and at the hamlet of the cheese factory (remember to book). This hike is best done in spring and late autumn or after a heavy rainstorm so that the water level is optimal and you can return home with unforgettable memories... and beautiful photos!
At the end of the day, return to the accommodation *** : dinner on site + night

Day 4: Chalain (PR31) - Average: 3h30/13km
From your hotel, take the road to Fontenu (15km / 15 minutes), the starting point of this 3rd hike, which allows you to walk around Lake Chalain, the largest natural lake in the Jura. Particularly appreciated by lovers of swimming and water sports in summer (the water reaches 25° without any problem in summer). The lake of Chalain, set in a green setting, is dominated in part by limestone cliffs offering very beautiful panoramas, which makes it a particularly pleasant site for hikers.
To have lunch, you will have to leave the course to go to Doucier or one of the 3 beaches of the lake. So take something to soak in before you leave.
At the end of the day, return to the accommodation *** : dinner on site + night

Day 5 :
Breakfast, end of services. The room must be vacated by 10am.

In addition to your hikes, take advantage of your stay to discover the 2 lakes of Clairvaux, the combe du Grandvaux and the village of Saint-Laurent-en-Grandvaux, or the region of Champagnole and its sites of La Billaude, Les Pertes de l'Ain or the Gorges de la Langouette. You can also take advantage of the opportunity to swim, try your hand at paddling or kayaking on the Ain, visit the boissellerie du Hérisson or taste Jura cheeses in one of the many fruit farms in the area.
