Snowshoeing in the wide open spaces of the Swiss Jura
Close to Les Rousses, the Swiss Jura offers its wide open spaces, shaped over the centuries, to our snowshoes. Dive into 3 days of adventure in the heart of the Swiss Jura: a true winter paradise that feels like Lapland.
This route takes in an altitude of over 1400m, with snow conditions that have often been good, even in recent years!
What you'll experience:
-Breathtaking panoramas from the ridges linking the summit of Mont Tendre (the highest point in the Swiss Jura) and the Crêt de la Neuve.
-Authentic mountain refuges (sometimes unguarded, depending on the season), where you'll enjoy the atmosphere of the mountains.
A magnificent high-altitude itinerary winding through the gigantic valleys below the highest peaks.
Please note! The 2 refuges are manned at certain weekends but do not offer catering. This trek is semi-autonomous, with food carried.
Stages 2 and 3 cover between 14 and 15km. This raid is aimed at sporty people.
Stage 1: Les chaumilles - Mont tendre - cabane de Cunay
11km / Max. altitude 1678m / Ascent +450m/-190m
Lodging at the Cunay hut (self-catering), bring a lunchtime snack.
We meet at 9am in Bois d'Amont, near the Tourist Office, before heading for the Col du Marchairuz in Switzerland, a 20-minute drive away. Briefing and equipment check before starting our trek.
Our objective is to climb Mont Tendre, the highest peak in the Swiss Jura (1679 m)! From up there, there's a breathtaking view of the Alps and the entire Jura chain.
We'll then continue on our way to the Cunay hut, an isolated refuge nestling in the heart of the mountains. Its location overlooking the Alps and its ambience make it an ideal haven of peace.
Day 2: Cabane de Cunay- Col du Marcahairuz- refuge des Pralets
15km / Max. altitude 1588m / Difference in altitude +150m/-460m
Lunch: picnic, accommodation at the Pralets refuge (self-catering)
After a good night's sleep, we have the longest day ahead of us. We begin our route with a gradual descent to the Col du Marchairuz (1447 m), before plunging into the Combe des Amburnex, a veritable geological masterpiece. This is one of the longest and most majestic combs in the Jura, alternating between open landscapes and shady areas with majestic spruce trees.
We'll wait for the La Neuve mountain pasture before descending to the Pralets refuge, an authentic Jura mountain chalet. A friendly atmosphere awaits us here, ideal for enjoying a good meal!
D3: Refuge des Pralets- Mont Salaa- combe des Amburnex- les chaumilles
14km / Max. altitude 1360m / Ascent +375m/-310m
On this last day, we'll be heading for the combe des Bégnines at an altitude of almost 1500m. This is a perched syncline, a vast grazing area in summer that takes on the appearance of the far north in winter. It's a pleasant walk to the view of Geneva and the Chalet à Roch, an area of alpine chalets.
Last picnic in the great outdoors.
The Sèche des Amburnex awaits us before a short climb back to our starting point.
