The treasures of the Jura

-

Set off to discover the Jura's must-see sites, its breathtaking landscapes and its authentically charming villages, living witnesses to a rich, unspoilt heritage. During your stay, you'll be amazed by the diversity of the panoramas: hillside vineyards, spectacular secluded areas, sparkling lakes, impressive waterfalls and mountains that are both gentle and wild. And when the flavours of Comté cheese and Jura wines combine with the richness of the landscape, your trip will be an unforgettable ...

Day 1: Arrival in Lons-le-Saunier, the prefecture of the Jura, at the crossroads of the vineyards, the Bresse region and the Pays des Lacs. Popular for its thermal baths with naturally salty waters, the town is also renowned for its heritage and the famous Maison de la Vache Qui Rit (Laughing Cow House). Before returning to your hotel***, take advantage of your free time to stroll around the Place de la Liberté, browse the shops hidden beneath its arcades and say hello to the statue of Rouget de Lisle, a native of the area.
At the end of the day, make yourself comfortable in your room. Dine in the casino restaurant, just a few steps from the hotel.

Day 2: Salins-les-Bains and Dole
Embark on a journey back in time to Salins-Les-Bains, where the thousand-year-old history of salt awaits you. A visit to the underground galleries of the Grande Saline, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will reveal the secrets of the exploitation of the white gold that made the town's fortune for twelve centuries. Today, the spa industry has taken over, bringing a new lease of life to a town with such a rich past.
Then it's on to Dole, a charming town on the banks of the Doubs. The town's historical heritage is as rich as its culinary delights. After a tasty lunch in a riverside restaurant, you'll explore its rich heritage, preserved and enriched over the centuries: the picturesque Canal des Tanneurs, the majestic Collegiate Church, Pasteur's birthplace. Each of its narrow streets is steeped in history and brimming with surprises.

Day 3: Poligny and Arbois
Off to the vineyards for a gourmet excursion! First stop Poligny to discover the Maison du Comté and learn the secrets of making this PDO cheese, emblematic of the Jura. An immersive journey awaits you, delightfully invoking all 5 senses and ending, as it should, with a tasting session.
Then on to Arbois, where you'll have lunch in a typical wine tavern before entering the private world of the famous researcher Louis Pasteur. His family home, which has been preserved in its original state, is just as Pasteur knew it, and will immerse you in his life and work. Finish the day with a tasting of the famous Jura wines.

Day 4: Château-Chalon and Baume-les-Messieurs
Let yourself be seduced by a new facet of the vineyards, with the discovery of two jewels labelled the Most Beautiful Villages in France. First of all, the village of Château-Chalon, perched on its rock, a veritable sentinel of the landscape and the birthplace of the legendary Vin Jaune. After a guided tasting of 3 wines specific to the Jura region, you'll have lunch and stroll to Baume-Les-Messieurs, set in its secluded setting, a geological spectacle of striking beauty.

Day 5: The Lakes region
Immerse yourself in the natural wonders of the Lacs region by heading for Clairvaux-Les-Lacs. Start with a visit to the Musée des Machines à nourrir et courir le monde (Museum of Machines for Feeding and Running the World), where you can admire the incredibly meticulous models created by a passionate craftsman.
You will then embark on a lunch cruise on the majestic Lac de Vouglans, France's third largest reservoir. You will continue your excursion along the water to the enchanting site of the Cascades du Hérisson: a unique spectacle of 31 successive jumps. At the foot of the magnificent Cascade de l'Eventail, the Maison des Cascades will tell you all about the history of the Vallée du Hérisson and the use of the driving force of water. For the more adventurous, don't miss the refreshing walk along the footpath that runs alongside the waterfalls.

Day 6: Les Rousses resort
Do you like the mountains? Set off for the heights of the département, a stone's throw from the Swiss border, for a day rich in flavours and traditions. Your adventure begins at the resort of Les Rousses, home to the Fort des Rousses, a former military stronghold converted into one of the largest Comté cheese maturing cellars in France. Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the cheese-maker's work before tasting the fruit of his expertise: a Comté cheese with unique aromas.
At lunchtime, enjoy a meal in a friendly restaurant in the heart of the resort before visiting the Musée de la Boissellerie to discover the ingenuity of local craftsmen and the spruce woodwork that is the pride of the Haut-Jura.
A journey rich in discoveries that will end with your return to your region.
