Massif de la Serre

The Serre massif is a granite massif located in the north of the Jura department between Dole and Gray.
Its maximum altitude is about 400 meters. Mainly covered with forests (beech trees, conifers), it has the particularity of being the only granite massif of the department of Jura, in an environment of limestone rocks and tertiary basins.
During the formation of the Jura massif, the thrust coming from the East spread towards the West and raised the massif de la Serre, vestige, with the Vosges and the Massif Central, of an immense mountainous chain of the primary era.
