Parc de la Visitation

-

The entrance to the Visitation park is through a wrought iron gate, classified as a historical monument and coming from an old Bresse castle. You are in the François Picquet alley, a missionary from Bourg-en-Bresse (see metal plaque on the tower).
Note: the old wash house, the old water tower (tower-dovecote fed by the Capucins spring), "Le retour du grand-père" (statue of Alphonse Muscat), as well as the mysterious "poype" (mound surmounted by an enigmatic column which supported a statue of the Virgin during the time of the Visitandines [1870 to 1983]). This false poype owes its existence to the earth heaped up during the demolition of the citadel.
The clumps of yew and boxwood, symbols of immortality, are omnipresent in this former place of prayer, giving the park a very special atmosphere. The trees are divided between oaks, maples, spruces, lime trees, beeches, walnut trees and chestnut trees, not forgetting a ginkgo biloba (the 40-crore tree, introduced into France for this reason; in the autumn its leaves also have the shine of golden crocodiles).
