Patrimoine de la commune de Ceyzérieu
The seigneuries of Grammont and La Pierre were established in the area at the beginning of the millennium.
The village of Ceyzérieu includes 3 types of old buildings
- the working farm: rectangular in shape with a doorway surmounted by a beam or ashlar. There is a gallery under the roof to dry the crops.
- the old house: it can be recognised by the external staircase which gives access to the first floor.
- the bourgeois house: situated on a plot of land protected by a wall.
The church or chapel of Saint-Andrée is located in the centre of the village. It is in the flamboyant Gothic style and seems to date from the 15th century. It is supported by thirteen stone buttresses. The nave and choir are vaulted with simple arches. Two chapels, also dating from the 15th century, house the baptismal font.
Ceyzérieu has 9 crosses in its commune:
- the cross in the cemetery
- the cross in the central square of the village, in front of the church
- the manchart cross bearing the inscription "1841, curé Tissot
- the Ardosset cross, made of cast iron and a stone column. It bears the inscription "blessed by Monseigneur Luçon on 13 May 1888. Curé Bouvier".
- the cross at Morgnieu
- the cross at Cratier bearing the inscription "1859 parish priest Tissot, 1896 parish priest Bouvier
- the cross at Aignoz
- the Grammont cross with the date 1896
- the cross at Sammissieu
The statue of Ardosset is at the central crossroads. It bears the inscription "Ardosset Marie 1896".
The sisters' house is a building situated on the edge of the C.D. 37. It was the home of the parish priest Tissot until 1861 before being occupied by the sisters of Saint Joseph, teachers. The building was given to the commune.
The Chaley fountain is located in the central square of the village. The owner of the fountain, Madame Chaley, used it to benefit the whole village. It bears the date 1903 and an inscription.
There are still a few washhouses in the village: the Bourbouillon washhouse, dating from 1850, the Archailles washhouse, built in 1852, the Pierre washhouse, the Morgnieu washhouse and the one at the Château de Grammont.
The war memorial is located in the village square. It dates from 1919 and was inaugurated on 24 September 1922.
The castle of Grammont probably dates from the 12th century. It consists of four orthogonal wings surrounding an inner courtyard. There is also a square tower, a crenellated tower, two wings in return for a square and the remains of a chapel. Ideally situated, this castle dominates the surrounding countryside. In the 12th century, it was owned by Geoffroy de Grammont and remained in the family for centuries. From the 14th century onwards there was a succession of owners.
The castle of Bossieu is of classical architecture. It was built in 1648 by the Malyvert family.
There are several beautiful residences in the commune:
- the Chaley-Lenormand house is a beautiful building near the church.
- The Corcelle-Martin house, south of the Archailles district, was built at the beginning of the 19th century.
- The Carron house, at the edge of the main street of the village, is a beautiful building with a truncated round tower housing a spiral staircase.
