Patrimoine du village de Cuzieu
In feudal times, the village belonged to the county of Rossillon, from which it was separated in 1772.
The church of Cuzieu, of very old construction (precise date unknown), was seriously damaged during the Revolution. A new church, in the neo-Gothic style, was therefore built at the entrance to the village in the 19th century. It is made of ashlar and has a slate roof. Its furnishings consist of a tombstone of a member of the Béatrix family, a high altar and altars of the Virgin and Saint Joseph, two patinated angels, seven statues of Sulpician workmanship and a painting by Gilles Duché. The parish is under the patronage of Saint Oyend.
The commune has two crosses: both are in memory of the 1897 mission.
In the courtyard of the town hall, you can see the cauldron that was used in the old fruit factory.
The commune now has 4 ovens (the one at Donnalèche has been demolished). The most beautiful is that of Fesne, which has a complete roof of slate.
There are two wash houses: one in Fesne and one in Vollien.
As for the château de Cuzieu, it belonged to the Béatrix family and then to the Dallemagne family, the Empire nobility of Belley until 1925. The façade dates from the 18th century and includes a double flight staircase.
The Blanchet farm, in Verupt, is a remarkable building: a few decades ago, it housed one of the last embroidery machines.
