The Bastion was built under François I in the 16th century to reinforce the fortifications of the city, which was French at the time, against a possible return of the Savoyards. The area was transformed into a promenade in 1774 with plane trees and fragrant lime trees. At the end, there is a statue of Xavier Bichat sculpted by David d'Angers.
