Site à pistes de dinosaures

-

Discovered in autumn 2004 by Jean-François Richard, the Loulle dinosaur track site is an exceptional testimony to the history of the Earth and the Jura Massif. It is the oldest dinosaur track site in the Jura Arc.

Nearly 1,500 footprints have been found here by palaeontologists from Lyon 1 University and the CNRS. They correspond to 21 sauropod dinosaur tracks (herbivores) and 6 theropod dinosaur tracks (carnivores), including those of a giant animal currently unknown in Europe.

Without protection, the fragility of the limestone slab, winter frost and trampling by visitors led to irreparable damage to this exceptional site. A large part of the site is now protected. A visitor walkway and panels help visitors to understand the environment in which the dinosaurs evolved in the Jurassic period, 155 million years ago.

During the summer months, guided tours are organised once a week by prior arrangement.

Free access. Please respect the site by staying on the marked path. From Ney, follow signs for Loulle. Before Loulle, there is a car park and information board on the left.
