On a rocky spur 70 m high, the remains of the ramparts and the keep of the former feudal capital of Valromey stand. The walls were 6 m thick and 30 m high. Within this perimeter was the chatelain's dwelling, inhabited until 1870, a prison, stables and outbuildings including, among other things, the stalls of a rural craft industry necessary to life at the time.
A signposted path leads to a lookout point from which there is a view over Bassieu, the southern Valromey, the Colombier and the Chartreuse massif.
