The Plateau de Retord is the Nordic spirit par excellence, with an ideal, gentle Nordic landscape, an immense natural area where the few isolated dwellings are the only landmarks between the valleys and wooded ridges.
With altitudes ranging from 1040 to 1280 metres, there are plenty of opportunities for Nordic activities and leisure on the Plateau. The various trailheads are interconnected, offering the most athletic skiers great opportunities for long-distance outings.
Whether you enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, Nordic ski touring or just love wide open spaces and beautiful landscapes, there's something for everyone on the Plateau de Retord.
In summer, it's a paradise for mountain bikers, hikers, wheelchair skiers...
La Porte des Plans d'Hotonnes: this is the most southerly departure point from the Plateau de Retord, but also the most important. At Les Plans d'Hotonnes, you can start out on the play area or take on the most difficult trails, the 17km red loop or the 23km tour of the Plateau de Retord.
Known for its downhill skiing, the resort is ideal for family outings (9 ski lifts with 13 runs: 2 green, 2 blue, 4 red). There is also a children's playground (with the ESF des Plans d'Hotonnes), as well as toboggan runs.
At the Les Plans d'Hotonnes biathlon stadium, you can try your hand at biathlon all year round, on skis, on foot or by bike. This activity is also accessible to people with disabilities.
Services: ski pass sales, toilets, equipment hire, ski school, restaurants, self-catering rooms, accommodation, tourist office, first-aid post...
La Porte de Cuvéry: this is the departure point at the northern end of the Plateau de Retord, with runs for all levels, a fun area and a toboggan run.
Cuvéry is also home to the sled dog runs, the perfect place to try your hand at sledging and watch the professional mushers train... an activity that can be enjoyed all year round, even when it's not snowing, as the sled transforms itself into a go-kart on wheels! (Please note: our Nordic ski runs and sled dog runs are unfortunately not suitable for ski joering).
Services: ski pass sales, toilets, equipment hire, ski school, restaurants, first-aid post, sled dog rides...
La Porte de la Chapelle: a slightly more remote departure point, with easy runs (green and blue) and the option of joining the black run that circles the Plateau.
Services: ski pass sales, toilets.
The GTJ snowshoe trail (45 km) crosses the Retord Plateau and offers magnificent views of Mont Blanc!
