Tourbières de Mouthe

-

Near the Source du Doubs, surrounded by spruces and hooked pines, the peat bog extends its colourful moorland, dotted with gullies, water holes with mossy banks.
The peat bogs are ecologically very rich areas and also water reserves that play an important role in feeding the water table and have a purifying power.

Here, relict plants from the last ice ages (less than 10,000 years BC) remain. Numerous birds and butterfly species have been recorded on the peat bogs.
At the spring, the water creates favourable conditions for the life of amphibians and reptiles. They appreciate the cold and damp conditions at the Source du Doubs.
