Village de Montagnieu

A stroll through the village reveals a small winegrower's habitat accompanied by more classical buildings that are very well presented. The territory of the commune of Montagnieu ranges in altitude from 200 m at the edge of the Rhône, in the hamlet of Les Granges, to 707 m in the mountain of Souhait. The famous Montagnieu traditional method is produced on these slopes: a white champagne with an elegant mousse and fine bubbles, to be drunk chilled as an aperitif or with dessert. The appellation vineyard covers about thirty hectares, spread over the communes of Montagnieu, Seillonnaz and Briord.

From an architectural point of view, the tower of Oncin (private building) is noteworthy. This tower was certainly built in the 15th century as part of the defence system of the Counts of Groslée. On this site there is currently a house consisting of several buildings. The house was built in the last century.
