Visite guidée : Sur les pas de Louis Pasteur à Besançon

Following the bicentenary of the birth of Louis Pasteur (27 December 1822 in Dole), it is worth recalling the links between the great Jura scientist and Besançon. The grandson and son of tanners, Louis Pasteur's family origins were in Besançon. His father, Jean-Joseph Pasteur, was born at 53 rue d'Arènes in 1791 in the family tannery. After taking part in the Napoleonic Wars, he moved to Dole and then to Arbois. Louis Pasteur moved to Besançon in 1839 to complete his studies and prepare for his baccalauréat at the Collège Royal (now the Collège Victor Hugo).
