Accessible on foot from Saint-Claude town centre, the Hermitage lookout offers an unbeatable view of the town of Saint-Claude and the surrounding mountains! Further up is the Sainte-Anne grotto and its receptacle carved into the rock (to the right of the entrance). Its water was considered miraculous, and Louis XI drank from it during his visit to Saint-Claude. Legend has it that this water restored his sight.
ACCESS:On foot from behind the Tourist Office, take rue du Collège. Take the stairs under the footbridge before the village hall. Follow the Chemin de la Rochette and the path uphill. Follow the signs for "Belvédère de l'Hermitage". After passing through the gate, take the path leading up to the ruins on the left. To get to the cave, return to the intersection near the gate and follow the signs for Chaumont. The path passes in front of the cave.
