Come and marvel at the architecture and history of Gigny Abbey. This remarkable monument of Romanesque art was founded around 890 by Bernon. He then created, with the Brothers of Baume les Messieurs, the prestigious abbey of Cluny. The church of Gigny will be associated with the great surge of Christianity of the 10th century. The future Pope Julius II was among others the prior in command.
New: summer exhibitions.
After 5 years of work, which notably concerned the rear façade and the roof, excavations have revealed ancient levels! Information panels have been installed to help visitors better understand this important heritage site. A booklet-guide facilitates the visit of the young public (available at the town hall and in the church).
A "heritage trail", created by ADAPEMONT, shows how the abbey structured the present village.
