Chapelle du Saint-Sepulcre
The Chapelle du Saint-Sépulcre is astonishing in many ways.
Built by a Baumois by the name of Pignet, canon of Besançon in 1540, this chapel is located outside the town. During epidemics, the chapel was used as a place for plague victims to gather without contaminating the rest of the population.
The architectural style is striking! You're standing on the porch of the chapel, under a pointed arch and surrounded by flame-shaped openings: typical elements of the Gothic influence.
It's inside the chapel that you'll find the most interesting exhibits! These include the Sepulchre (Christ's burial place), the tombstone paving and the Bearded Virgin!
Follow the guide! Guided tours of the chapel are only available in summer for individuals and all year round for groups.
