Chapelle Expiatoire des Carmes - Saint Claude
The Chapelle Expiatoire des Carmes in Saint-Claude: a place of memory and history
Discreet but full of emotion, the Chapelle Expiatoire was built in 1868 in Byzantine style.
Built on the remains of the former Carmelite convent, this chapel bears witness to the town's past and is an invitation to meditation. Its sober architecture and peaceful atmosphere make it a not-to-be-missed site.
The great fire that devastated the town in 1799 spared this house.
The chapel is only open for temporary exhibitions.
