Chapelle oratoire Notre-Dame Secours des Chrétiens

-

The Chapel of Our Lady Help of Christians (1822) is located in Aubonne.
In front of the cemetery, above the crossroads, there is a stone and masonry building, 2.35 m wide and 3.10 m deep, placed between two lime trees. Its two-sloped tiled roof was once covered with stones.
Its façade is framed by two columns aligned on the side walls. Supported by a fairly high square base, they rise above a torus to a ring serving as a capital, topped by a chisel that supports a die, crossed by a median scroll.
Resting on them, a wide straight lintel supports the triangular pediment with moulded edges. Between these two jambs, set back above two steps, opens a bay closed by a wooden door, 2m high, the upper part of the central panel of which is lined with a grille, lined with an opening glass frame.
A glass transom closes the barrel vault which extends into the interior where an altar resting in tiers is placed against the back wall.
In the centre of the tier is a black crowned Virgin, made of wood, about 1 m high, carrying the child Jesus on her left arm.
At her sides, smaller marble statues of ST JOSPEH AND ST PAUL are placed.
On the pediment, in a medallion in relief, is the Marian monogram.
On the lintel we read:
AUXILIUM CHRISTANORUM
1822 1938
ORA PRO NOBIS.
Philippe AYMONNIN, who had been saved from the stake on June 8, 1794 in Chamars, built this building to place a statue of the Virgin.
Its blessing took place on 8 September 1822.
