Collégiale Saint Hippolyte

The Collegiate Church of Saint Hippolyte can be visited during the day all year round. The church houses a fine collection of 15th-century Burgundian statues (Education of the Virgin, Saint James, a Virgin of the Founder) by renowned sculptors such as Claus de Werve. Some of these statues are copies, while the originals can be seen in the Louvre or the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) in New York. The history of the Virgin and Child is also worth discovering.

The collegiate church also houses two Cavaillé-Coll organs facing each other, a 15th-century Passion altarpiece and a Calvary on a rood beam. The history of Poligny is partly retold inside thanks to the many stained glass windows created by Lucien Bégule himself or his workshop. They date from the 19th century. The remarkable stained-glass window depicting the return of the relics of Saint Colette is one of those that describe the life of this saint, so important to the people of Poligny.

As well as its pure, sober architecture, the Collegiate Church is also worth a visit for its furnishings.
