Église de Sainte-Agnès

-

The 13th-century church of Sainte-Agnès is topped by a Comtois bell tower with monochrome tiles. Mentioned as early as 1133 in the list of dependencies of the abbey of Baume-les-Messieurs, it is one of around 700 Comtois bell towers in Franche-Comté, 124 of which are in the Jura. Many Comtois bell towers were built during the reconstruction of churches in
Franche-Comté in the 18th century following the wars of the previous century.
This typical architectural element appears to be a fairly simple and robust solution, suited to a region rich in timber production and local craftsmen.
