Église Saint-Etienne de Châtel

-

Like nine other villages in the area, the church of Saint-Etienne de Châtel belonged to the priory of Châtel
established by the monks of Gigny.

The church, which dates back to the 10th century and is undoubtedly one of the oldest in the area, still stands on this perched, almost hidden site. Listed as a Historic Monument, it is currently undergoing restoration work supported by the Fondation du Patrimoine and the Bern Mission.

The hill of Châtel is a link between the Petite Montagne of the Jura and the Bresse region of Burgundy, which it dominates. A park and gardens surround the convent and the church of Saint-Etienne.
