Église Saint Germain l'Auxerrois

-

The church of Saint-Germain de Mièges, recognisable by its architecture and the brightness of its stone (the famous "yellow stone" from the old Molpré quarries), houses a wealth of furnishings dating from the late Middle Ages. Destroyed several times and rebuilt with the help of local residents, it is now a permanent fixture in the landscape.

Its bell tower, formerly topped by a double dome, was destroyed in a fire in 1839 and restored with a flat roof flanked by four statues, an unusual feature in the area. Throughout the building, there are a number of Gothic and Renaissance decorative elements that vividly evoke daily life in the 15th century.

The association "Val de Mièges: sauvegarde et valorisation du patrimoine" (Val de Mièges: safeguarding and promoting heritage), set up in 2022 with the aim of promoting and raising awareness of the heritage of its "Val", is working to preserve this ancient masterpiece by offering guided tours and various activities to help restore it, every Friday at 2.30pm from April to September.
