Oratoire Notre-Dame

Jaunotte stayed in the Rochejean area and today he is showing us the Notre-Dame oratory.

It is located 1 km from the village, on the road to Labergement-Sainte-Marie, at the entrance to the gorges of Fourperet, a cluse through which the Doubs passes and which the Frasne-Vallorbe railway line uses.

There is a niche situated in the middle of the gorge, about 50 cm high, vaulted in a cul-de-four shape, dug into the rock that borders the road. A triangular pediment decorated with dentils under the cornice is added above.
A stone cross stands at the top. In the niche is a plastic statue of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Underneath is a large base, decorated with acanthus leaves and a hanging ovoid apple.
Under the cornice is written: INDULGENCE FOR 40 DAYS, and on the edge of the base: AVE MARIA.
