ENS - Lac de Bouverans et Marais du Varot

-

Located between Bonnevaux and Bouverans, in the heart of the Drugeon Basin, this Sensitive Natural Area is as rich in biological diversity as the area is renowned for.
Home to a multitude of animal and plant species, from the most common to the rarest, the area is a paradise for anyone interested in nature.
From spring onwards, an explosion of life awakens the site, both in the air with the flights of the many birds and insects that frequent the site, and in the water with the activity of amphibians coming out of their wintering period, fish and invertebrates. The aquatic environment, with its lake and watercourses, marshes, peat bogs and wet meadows, is a feeding ground, breeding ground, overwintering area and resting place for a myriad of animals; it is also an environment that is conducive to the development of an exceptional diversity of flora.
Along with the whole of the Drugeon basin, the site has been classified as part of the European Natura 2000 network and as a Wetland of World Importance under the RAMSAR Convention since February 2003.
A discovery trail with 40 educational panels and markers, as well as a wildlife observatory, allow visitors to explore the lake. A lookout point with a reading table and riddle terminals allows visitors to discover the marsh.
