Dominated by the Roche Bernard (Risoux massif), the Lac des Mortes is bordered by peat bogs. To the north of the lake, the ruisseau des Mortes escapes from the lake and is lost a few hundred metres underground. Its resurgence is located at the source of the Doye Gabet in the Bienne valley (Jura), after an underground journey of 8 km
The Lac des Mortes marks the border between the Doubs and the Jura with the Lac de Bellefontaine. Hiking and mountain bike trails allow you to discover it.
It and the Chapelle-des-Bois peat bogs constitute an ecological complex of great value; there is indeed an exceptional flora (17 protected species) and a remarkable fauna for the region.
