Ancienne fromagerie - Le Chalet du Coin d'aval
At Fort du Plasne, in the hamlet of Coin d'Aval, the association 'Les Amis du Grandvaux' invites you to visit an authentic old cheese dairy dating from 1825, the only remaining example of the 40 chalets that existed on Grandvaux in the 19th century.
Gruyère cheese was made here between 1825 and 1906, when a modern dairy was built in the village. From that year onwards, the building was only used for milk collection, which is why it has fortunately remained in its original state.
Guided tours explain what it was like to make the forerunner of Comté cheese in the old-fashioned way, and show you the instruments of the time. They are complemented by the projection of a faithful reconstruction, filmed on site. An adjoining room displays old butter-making equipment.
The Coin-d'Aval chalet is part of the Routes du Comté and a member of the Jura-Musée network.
