The Montécheroux museum: a journey to the heart of the know-how of yesteryear
Immerse yourself in the fascinating history of Montécheroux, a village where ingenuity and passion have fashioned tools of unrivalled perfection. The local museum, a veritable treasure trove, invites you to discover an ancestral know-how that has spread far beyond its borders.
Treasures awarded around the world
The museum's display cases are overflowing with exceptional pieces that bear witness to the excellence of local production. Admire the objects that have earned Montécheroux an international reputation, winning awards at prestigious events such as the Hanoi Colonial Exhibition in 1887 and the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889. You'll also find mobile display cases, designed to attract customers at trade fairs in Basel, Stuttgart and elsewhere.
A heritage safeguarded by passion
The preservation of this heritage is the result of the determination of François Armbruster, former director of F.M.X (Forges de Montécheroux). Thanks to his vision, these marvels are now accessible to everyone, offering a lasting testimony to the talent of the men and women of the region.
A collection enriched by precious donations
The museum's collection, mainly made up of objects from local factories, has been enriched over time by personal donations. Admire the miniatures by Rodolphe Lamy, Armand Dormois and Charline, as well as Francis Ritter's collection, which add to this wealth.
A tribute to the genius of the craftsman
This museum is a vibrant tribute to the workers who, despite difficult working conditions, were able to innovate, organise and adapt to make their know-how known throughout the world.
Their dynamism and pride have enabled Montécheroux to make a name for itself, from Tokyo to New York, via Buenos Aires, Montevideo and South Africa.
A source of inspiration and nostalgia
A visit to the museum invites reflection and modesty. How did these generations, with limited resources, manage to conquer the world? It's a question that has particular resonance in this age of technology and globalisation. The museum also awakens a gentle nostalgia, evoking the days when 350 workers animated the village, when the sound of hammers echoed and the light of the forges shone.
