At the gateway to Arsure-Arsurette and on the edge of the Haute-Joux massif, the Baroche Comté cheese dairy has a proud appearance.
Created in 2005 from the merger of three cheese-making cooperatives, it won an award at the Salon de l'Agriculture for its fruity Comté cheese.
At the heart of the Comté PDO zone, with more than 6 million litres of milk processed each year, the fruitière produces its tasty Comté cheese in a variety of maturing stages: 6 to 8 months for the 'mild', 14 months for the 'fruity', 18 months for the 'old' and up to more than 30 months for the 'extra-old' Comté, available during the festive season.
A total of 29 members are involved in the smooth running of the dairy, alongside its employees. This combination of talents means that around thirty wheels of cheese are produced every day on site.
With its panoramic view over the cheese-making workshop, the dairy shop sells a wide range of products from the Franc-Comté region, in addition to the Comté and fromage blanc cheeses made on site: Morbier, Bleu de Gex, tommes, cream, charcuterie, honey, drinks and chocolates, made exclusively by local craft businesses...
