Fruitière de Valempoulières

-

In the small village of Valempoulières, the dairy has been at the heart of local life for over a century. Now run by the cheese-maker, Nicolas Maréchal, Séverine and Virginie in the shop, it has 10 members, producing 4 million litres of milk. Thanks to Nicolas, his second-in-command and his apprentice, this production is transformed into 410 tonnes of Comté cheese a year, matured by Arnaud, then offered in two maturing stages in the shop. Since 2020, we have also been offering an organic Comté cheese.

To find out everything there is to know about the operation of the dairy and the Comté production chain, from the field to the plate, we offer guided tours. Reservations required. You'll discover the work of the cheese-makers, as well as the pre-refining cellars and their precious cheeses in the making.

In the shop, you'll be greeted by Séverine or Virginie, who will of course offer you Comté cheese, which won a gold medal at the Paris Agricultural Show in 2019, as well as Serrac, cream and fromage blanc produced on site, and Nozeroy butter. Other cheese specialities complete the range, including Morbier, Bleu de Gex from Les Moussières, Mont d'Or in season, and goat's cheese. And other essentially regional products.

Visits by prior arrangement.
