ARCEY

-

Arcey, the second largest market town in our region in terms of population, is located at the northern end of the 2 Vallées Vertes. To get there, you need to get away from the Jura Mountains and valleys to head towards northern Franche-Comté (Territoire de Belfort, Pays de Montbéliard, Pays d'Héricourt) and the Vosges mountains. Notre-Dame-de-la-Grêle is a unique monument in the Montbéliard district. It is a tiny chapel commonly known as an "oratory". Built around 1840 and known as Notre-Dame-de-la-Grêle, this oratory built of pink Vosges sandstone is supposed to offer protection against natural disasters. Notre-Dame-de-la-Grêle can be seen on the outskirts of the village on the way to Sainte-Marie. Also worth a visit is Saint-Privat church, in the heart of the village.
