The making of the instruments is a long process where nothing is left to chance. Each part that makes up the instrument is studied because they will all have an influence on its final sound. This is why many hours are needed to make each member of the quartet family as well as their bowed string cousins (violas da gamba, pocket violins, etc.). The same goes for the bows.
