Emaux bressans Jeanvoine - Fabricant
Two stores welcome you in downtown Bourg-en-Bresse
Bijouterie JEANVOINE, 5 rue Thomas Riboud (downtown, near the town hall) and Bijouterie MAGINOT 1 avenue Maginot (next to the covered market).
Invented in 1397 by Maître Guillaume, an enameler in Bourg-en-Bresse, to decorate the sword of Amédée VIII of Savoy, Bresse enamels enjoyed their golden age in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Ornaments for princesses and aristocrats, the delicate jewels were soon democratized, offering their refinement to the beauties of town and country, far beyond their native Bresse.
Bresse enamelware is still made in Bourg-en-Bresse today. Emaux Bressans Jeanvoine, who perpetuate this art of craftsmanship with respect for tradition, are brilliantly bringing these very special jewels into the 3rd millennium. Classic or contemporary, Jeanvoine's creations ensure the continuity of a living art, firmly rooted in our Bresse cultural heritage.
Bressan enamels are handmade on a silver background hammer-cut from laminated plates. The background features a criss-cross relief to retain the color, and is decorated with gold spangles. Various colors are used to embellish the creations: blues, oranges, greens, white... Numerous variations are produced in the workshop above the store: rings, earrings, bracelets, watches, pendants, and even Champagne corks or pens, to give just a few examples.
