Two stores welcome you in downtown Bourg-en-Bresse
JEANVOINE Jewelry, 5 rue Thomas Riboud (downtown, near the city hall) and MAGINOT Jewelry, 1 avenue Maginot (next to the covered market)
Invented in 1397 by Master Guillaume, enameller in Bourg-en-Bresse, to decorate the sword of Amédée VIII of Savoy, Bresse enamels knew their golden age at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Ornaments of princesses and aristocrats, the delicate jewels were quickly democratized to offer their refinement to the beauties of the cities and the fields, well beyond their Bresse of origin.
The manufacture of Bresse enamel is still carried out today in Bourg-en-Bresse. Perpetuating this art craft in the respect of tradition, the Emaux Bressans Jeanvoine, brilliantly bring these so particular jewels into the 3rd millennium. Classic or contemporary, the creations of the Jeanvoine workshop ensure the durability of a living art, well anchored in our Bresse cultural heritage.
Bressan enamels are handmade on a silver background hammered out of laminated plates. This background has a crisscrossed relief retaining the color and is decorated with gold pebbles. Several colors decorate the creations: blue, orange, green, white... Many variations are made in the workshop above the store: rings, earrings, bracelets, watches, pendants, and even Champagne stoppers or pens, to give just a few examples.
