In 2020, after more than four years' practice and two years' training, Florine Carbonneaux decided to open "L' Atelier de l'Aube" in the village of Le Pasquier - an exhibition and sales space for handmade ceramics. Specialising in 'raku' ceramics, Florine uses this precise and delicate Japanese firing process every day in her studio, giving the pieces she creates subtle 'craquelés'.
Developed in the 16th century in the Land of the Rising Sun, this method requires the pieces to be taken out of the kiln while they are still glowing; they are then immediately immersed in sawdust, which catches fire... The thermal shock then cracks the glaze and the smoke seeps directly into the cracks, marbling the object with fine black lines... and making each piece unique.
Florine is keen to pass on her skills by organising regular introductory 'raku' workshops.
During the sessions reserved for children, they can make their own pieces by following the different stages of production - modelling, firing, glazing, etc. Creative courses are also reserved for adults, with themed workshops held throughout the year, usually over two days.
As you drive through Le Pasquier, be sure to stop off at "L' Atelier de l' Aube" to discover the ceramist's surprising creations - sculptures, decorative objects, crockery or jewellery...
