L'Atelier39

L'Atelier39

-

Initially a laminator at the Forges de Syam, until their closure in 2009, Benjamin Mittay now shapes raw materials (wood, steel, iron...) into unique objects in the commune of Châtelneuf, in the heart of the Champagnole Nozeroy Jura region: knives!

In his workshop, Benjamin uses traditional tools and a coal-fired forge to produce the blades and handles of his knives entirely by hand... When you walk through the doors of "L'Atelier 39", you'll enter the surprising world of a passionate cutler who is above all an artist, and discover all the subtleties of his work.

The knives made by this 2014 winner of the Ateliers d'art de France competition are entirely customisable, from the mechanisms to the materials and shapes, and come straight from his imagination... or that of his customers! Depending on your tastes, you could opt for a knife with a Damascus blade, or a Balthazar knife, the Jura cutler's favourite model.
