Just outside Champagnole, in Ney, Valérie Duval has been painting unique decors on various glass surfaces for over three decades.
Voted "Artisan of the Year" in 2009, she has specialised in this original artistic activity over the years, creating all her designs entirely by hand. Her nimble fingers personalise bottles, vases, plates, mirrors, lamps, feeding bottles and piggy banks - and it's with an ever-renewed passion that Valérie draws her brushes to satisfy everyone's colourful desires.
Her favourite themes are flowers, butterflies and rural scenes from the Jura, but she also creates other motifs on request - sometimes even portraits. And when she abandons glass, it's to turn to other materials (wood, metal, earthenware or plastic...) on which she demonstrates the same artistic sensitivity.
In her studio, which doubles as an exhibition and sales space, Valérie first draws an initial sketch using "cern contour". She then applies the colours (made by her using different pigments) to this outline, and meticulously fine-tunes every detail. Once the decoration is complete, the object is put in the oven to fix the pattern using ultraviolet light, before the final stage - varnishing.
Visitors can either choose from the many creations on display, or order a personalised object from the artist. The result: a wide range of gift ideas to suit all tastes and budgets, and a 100% chance of finding THE original souvenir to take home in your suitcases!
