Reculée des Planches et cascade des Tufs
ACCESS TO THE SITE: due to overcrowding at the Cascade des Tufs site, local roads are closed to traffic. Access to the hotel and restaurants is permitted. Non-residents are forbidden to park in the village, except for professional vehicles and those entitled to do so, on both sides of the public roads, with the exception of the Maillard orchard car park (located behind the church with 25 spaces), the "Au Bourbet" car park (located 300m from the entrance to the village, accessible via the RD247/80 spaces) or, when it is closed, along the right-hand side of the RD 247 coming from Mesnay over a distance of 0 to 350 m at the entrance to the village (70 spaces). These bans will apply during peak tourist periods (national school holidays, weekends and public holidays throughout the year).
Welcome to the Reculée des Planches, an impressive valley enclosed by 245-metre-high limestone cliffs, making it the highest reculée in the Jura. Listed as a protected natural site and a Natura 2000 site, it is a treasure trove of flora and fauna... At its foot is the village of Les Planches-près-Arbois, while at the summit dominates the village of La Châtelaine.
The Cascade des Tufs is fed by the Cuisance river, which rises in the heart of the reculée and resurfaces through numerous cavities in the tuff (a limestone rock of sedimentary origin), offering a breathtaking spectacle.
Swimming prohibited.
Access on foot or by car pool strongly recommended.
