La Maison Janin and cheese has been a family affair for over sixty years: initially set up by Robert Janin in 1960, the Champagne-based store offers a wide selection of speciality cheeses made from cow's, goat's or sheep's milk. In the purest family tradition, the shop was first taken over by the son, Michel, and then (in 2008) by the grandson, Marc. In 2015, Marc was awarded the title of "Meilleur ouvrier de France crémier - affineur" - the only one in the whole region - and is joined in the family business by his brother, Mathieu.
With passion and rigour, the two cheese-makers select quality products from small producers scattered all over France. Many of these gastronomic treasures are then matured in the cheese dairy's maturing cellar, giving them the Janin hallmark.
A wide range of cheeses, both Jura and non-Jura, can be discovered on the personal advice of Marc and Mathieu: Comté, Morbier, Cancoillotte, Bleu de Gex, Mont d'Or and Raclette are all well represented, as are various mountain tommes (from the Jura, Savoie or the Pyrenees), goat's cheeses and Roquefort...
The cheese dairy also makes petits suisses and the famous "Fontainebleau", a succulent creamy fromage blanc emulsion. A selection of products from local producers (Jura wines, biscuits, preserves and jams, etc.) allows customers to discover other specialities made in the surrounding area.
Cheese platters and gift boxes can also be put together in shop, while customers further afield can make their purchases online.
