The Vouivre is the fabulous snake from the legends that inspired Marcel Aymé's novel: "On her forehead, she wears an enormous precious stone of inestimable value, called the escarboucle. Before bathing, she lays it on the shore and hides it in the moss or under a stone. Only then is there any chance of getting hold of it, and then fortune is made. But if the Vouivre catches the thief, her vengeance will be terrible. As you contemplate the waterfall, you will have the feeling that the waters are suddenly rising out of the rock and falling further down into an admirable emerald green basin.

ACCESS: From the Tourist Office, take the Pont de Pierre. The Vouivre waterfall is signposted: follow the yellow markings. The path starts on Rue de la Glacière. After the skate park, cross the bridge to the left and follow the Chemin de la Crozate, then at the next crossroads take the Chemin de Diesles.
Chemin de Diesles.
