Musée de la Lunette

-

The history of the telescope as an "eye catcher

A museum unique in France
Located in Morez, the capital of the French eyewear industry, the Musée de la Lunette traces the history of the metal-framed spectacle, which began in 1796 thanks to the skill of a master nail-maker. Discover how the people of the Haute-Jurassie region used their ingenuity and know-how to develop a veritable industry that is still recognised the world over for its quality and creativity.

A collection unique in the world
Through one of the world's largest collections, the EssilorLuxottica - Pierre Marly collection, the museum also invites visitors to discover the global history of eyewear in a journey that begins in the 13th century and takes us through Europe, Asia and North America. Pierre Marly, a renowned optician and creator of unusual models, designed eyewear for some of the biggest stars of the second half of the 20th century, including Elton John, Michel Polnareff and Sophia Loren. Above all, the "couturier des lunettes" has assembled one of the world's largest collections of eyewear and optical instruments, from medieval bezicles to Sarah Bernhardt's face-glasses and the temple spectacles of Victoire de France (daughter of Louis XV).
