Did you know?

What 'Jurassic' means...

In 1829, the term 'Jurassic' was coined by a geologist, named Brongniart, to classify the predominantly chalky terrain (formed between 205 and 135 million years ago) that can be seen everywhere in... the Jura Mountains! From this limestone rock, the effects of erosion have created some amazing landscapes featuring a multitude of underground caves and cavities!

Go back to the Jurassic era and the age of dinosaurs

  • Head for Dinoplagne to see dinosaur tracks and travel 150 million years back in time.
  • If you're up for a 'prehistoric theme park' experience, visit Dino-Zoo where you'll find not only rides but also some fabulous life-sized replicas of dinosaurs!
  • For geology enthusiasts, go and see the Lapiaz de Loulle, a fascinating limestone pavement site that shows how this geological formation results from rainwater trickling over the limestone rock.
Fascinating!
