Families rule!

Family winter sports holidays

Often, the choice of winter holiday for a family is all about togetherness, safety and cost rather than the number of slopes. The Jura Mountains are the ultimate family destination, with a natural environment that has nothing to envy of the big ski resorts.

The Jura Mountains for families

Skiing for everyone!

You don't have to go far to find a ski resort that will appeal to the whole family. Far from the crowds, the Mountains of Jura offer a rich and exhilarating environment, with authentic, unspoilt resorts of just the right size, and safety and savings into the bargain!

Alpine fun for all!

The Jura Mountains are all about low-profile skiing through the fir trees and a human atmosphere. So forget those extra-wide slopes that go on forever.

Here, beginners build their confidence in the safety of gentle slopes, while teenagers have fun without their parents, skiing through the woods or trying the  snowpark jumps.

Snowboarders, downhillers, telemarkers and Nordic skiers all share the generosity of these welcoming mountains.

Not only that but, at Les Rousses, Métabief and Monts-Jura, the snow cannons guarantee an action-packed holiday!

For an authentic atmosphere, the massif's multiple village resorts offer even more reassurance and at unbeatable prices too!

Skate skiing or diagonal stride

Cross-country skiing for all!

With more than 3,000km of trails in the heart of nature, the Jura Mountains are truly the realm of Nordic skiiers.

These mid-altitude mountains are ideal for Nordic skiing in a generous natural haven. The villages nestle reassuringly at the bottom of peaceful valleys and offer departure points for a number of itineraries.

Skate-skiing or diagonal stride? The trails are groomed for both skiing styles so the whole family can enjoy themselves together. You'll ski in a picture-postcard setting of ridges, wooded valleys, vast white stretches and steep mountainsides.

For eco-responsible families, the Resort of Les Rousses, the biggest Nordic ski area in France, is the first resort to boast the Flocon Vert seal of approval.

Ski-joering

Trying new winter sports

The snow-covered meadows invite both children and adults to try ski-joering for the very first time.

You don't have to be an expert at horseriding to try this ancestral discipline. An experienced instructor will teach you to guide the horse without getting stressed and just let it pull you along.

A mix of activities

Off the skis in the Jura Mountains

Widespread across the entire massif, dog-sled rides are a great way to enjoy the Scandinavian-style scenery with total peace of mind. It's simply magical!

Enjoy the unquestionable privilege of snowshoeing stealthily to some of the mountains' most beautiful spots. With over 1,000km of waymarked trails, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing itineraries for the whole family.

Sledging is a timeless activity that appeals to all ages! There are designated slopes set aside just for those mad descents, and you can go even faster on a snowtube.

If you're a family of mountain bikers, try the latest craze, Fatbike! On this bike with huge wheels, you can cycle across even the snowiest terrain. It's great fun and sure to please teenagers and adults alike.

Culture for families

Welcome to the Land of Toys

If the weather's not great or you just fancy a family culture outing, head for Moirans-en-Montagne, the Land of Wooden Toys. One in every two French toys is made here in South Jura, a very wooded region. Wood turners and craftsmen used to make all sorts of games and toys.

Even today, toys rule here! There are toy workshop tours, a toy museum (with one of the best toy collections in Europe), the "Idéklic" toy festival in July, and the "Christmas in the Land of Toys" festival in December… A must-do for families with children!
