Day 1 - Lunch with a view!

A picnic at the Château de Chevreaux

There's no better way to appreciate the beautiful views across the Bresse Bourguignonne plain than from the Château de Chevreaux, guarding the Revermont.

This castle dates from the 12th century and stands on a headland 470 metres above sea level. Since the 1990s, an association has been renovating the castle, piece by piece.

TOP TIP FOR A PICNIC: Picnic hampers are available from the Saint-Augustin hotel-restaurant in Saint-Amour. The chef offers creative cuisine made using fresh, local and seasonal products, that are treated with care and respect.

Day 1 - Afternoon

Easy-going atmosphere, utter pleasure for the senses!

Make your way to La Caborde, a cultural centre in Beaufort-Orbagna on the theme of winegrowing. This unique place was designed by architects from Lons-le-Saunier, Reichardt & Ferreux, to blend into its surroundings.

'La Caborde' is also the local term for the historic drystone huts found in the vineyards of the Jura. They were once used to store tools and as a shelter.

Throughout the year, the La Caborde centre offers a diverse range of cultural events, including exhibitions, aperitif concerts, entertainment for children, wellness activities and much more.

- A shop selling gourmet and creative products from local farmers and craftspeople.

- A tasting venue for an introduction to the wine produced in the southern Revermont vineyards.

The panoramic terrace at La Caborde is a great place to relax and unwind! From there, you'll be able to admire a superb 360° view over the Bresse Bourguignonne vineyards and plains.

Day 2  - Morning

Exploring Gizia steephead valley

This morning, you'll be exploring Gizia steephead valley, which is one of the wildest steephead valleys in the Jura. At the end of this 3 km valley are 220-metre-high cliffs. These cliffs are home to chamois, peregrine falcons, eagle owls, orchids and an endemic flower, Gizia rockfoils. The cliffs in the Gizia cirque are protected by a biotope protection order.

From the Chanelet viewpoint, you can admire the whole steephead valley, the village of Gizia and in the distance the Bresse Bourguignonne plain and the Chalonnais and Mâconnais mountains.

There's no better a way to explore this place than by embarking on the hiking trail through the valley that will take you via Gizia, Châtel and the Chanelet (or Croix) viewpoint!

The Atelier de la Barbastelle

Come and meet Tristan, the potter

This potter's workshop was born from a desire to create with the hands, a desire for independence and freedom. From this first idea then came the desire to share, discuss, and exchange ideas with others.

Tristan works with enameled stoneware and creates useful objects, decorative items or pieces for the garden. The creations made in this workshop all showcase a particular fondness for nature.

Besides being a place of creation, this is also a place for people to meet up and share ideas and knowledge. Tristan organises introduction to pottery courses using a pottery wheel and techniques for working with clay, as well as tours of the workshop.

The Atelier L’Arbre-Lune

Come and meet Fred, the blacksmith

The forge at the Atelier l’Arbre-Lune creates long-lasting and repairable everyday objects (tools, household accessories, knives, etc.), made from forged steel and wood.

Fred combines traditional blacksmithing techniques with hot steel forging and woodworking. He creates objects using recycled materials and these creations have a minimal environmental impact.

Tours of the forge can be organised all year round with prior bookings. The blacksmith also provides holiday gites and guestrooms with the French 'Accueil Vélo' label in a venue devoted to art and local craftsmanship.
